Bo Diddley Plaza · Always Free · Member Underwritten

Step into a recurring relationship with the practice.

Free community yoga at Bo Diddley Plaza stays free — and a monthly Sankofa membership is the way it stays that way. Three tiers, one mission: keep every body welcome.

Why We Built This
“Sankofa — go back and fetch what was left behind. The wisdom our ancestors kept is the wisdom our bodies still remember. Return to what is whole, and the whole is free.”

The same Akan Sankofa principle that grounds Bo Diddley Plaza yoga grounds the membership: when we return to what matters — community, breath, the practice being accessible — we carry it forward together. The free Monday & Wednesday morning gathering will always be free. Members underwrite what it takes to keep it that way.

What Your Membership Underwrites

Free to attend. Never free to run.

Bo Diddley Plaza yoga is free to attend — and that’s the point. A recurring Sankofa membership carries the same costs as a one-time gift, but across months and years — so the plaza stays open, the instructors stay paid, and no one is ever turned away.

  • Free-class costs (permit fees, plaza coordination)
  • Instructor stipends (fair pay for community teachers)
  • Community outreach (flyers, partner orgs, word of mouth)
  • Yoga supplies (loaner mats, blocks, straps)
  • Future workshops and seasonal events
Three Tiers, One Mission

Pick a way to step into the practice.

Each tier underwrites the same free gathering — the deeper the tier, the more the relationship carries the work forward.

Questions Before You Step In

A few honest answers about membership.

There is no sales pitch here — just a clear invitation to return to the practice in the way that fits your season.

If classes are free at Bo Diddley Plaza, why pay?

The Monday and Wednesday 9 AM community practice remains free to attend. Membership carries the recurring costs that keep an accessible gathering rooted here — permit and plaza coordination, fair instructor stipends, outreach, loaner mats and props, and future workshops. Free to attend. Never free to run.

What does the Sustainer tier actually fund?

The $11/month Sustainer is a steady seed for the shared work: the plaza, fair pay for teachers, outreach, loaner supplies, and workshops. It is not a claim that one member’s payment is earmarked to one item; it helps carry the whole practice forward. For a flexible one-time gift, visit /support.

Is membership recurring or one-time?

The listed tiers are monthly recurring relationships: $11, $33, or $111 per month. They are distinct from a one-time gift, and membership payments have not opened yet — this page is collecting intent-list names first. Join the Intent List and we’ll tell you when your tier is ready to begin.

How is membership different from donating on /support?

Membership is an ongoing tier relationship with participation and recognition that deepen by tier — including the Practitioner online practice and retreat waitlist, and the Circle’s annual Bo Diddley Plaza session sponsorship. A gift through /support is a flexible one-time way to help. Explore the tiers and choose the path that fits.

When do the courses in /portal actually launch?

The portal is coming soon and opens strand by strand; there is no launch date to promise yet. Join the portal intent list for first access as each strand opens. Until then, the living practice is available through /curriculum, and its roots are here in /lineage.

Other Ways to Step In

Membership isn’t the only way in.

If a recurring relationship isn’t right today, every other way of showing up still matters — the plaza, the practice, the work.
