Community Yoga at Bo Diddley Plaza

Yoga Sankofa hosts free, outdoor yoga classes in Gainesville, FL at Bo Diddley Community Plaza (111 E University Ave) every Monday and Wednesday morning at 9 AM. Drop-in welcome. No registration needed.

Led by Makeda Meeks, founder of Yoga Sankofa, each session weaves together movement, breathwork, and community in a space rooted in Black and brown healing traditions. Donations are welcome and appreciated, but never required. Healing should be accessible to all.

Drawing from Akan, Vhavenda traditions, and Sankofa philosophy — yoga as ancestral remembrance.

Trauma-Informed

No pressure to perform. You are the expert of your body. Every pose is an invitation, never a demand.

Breathwork & Grounding

Tools to calm your nervous system and reconnect with yourself — practices you can carry into daily life.

Community Connection

A gathering for neighbors who believe that healing is collective. All levels, all ages, all backgrounds.

Kids Yoga Sankofa Summer Camp

Looking for yoga for your children? Yoga Sankofa's Kids Camp runs June 19–21 in Gainesville, FL. Ages 6–10. Three days of movement, breathwork, and creative play. Free yoga mat included. Limited spots remaining.
